A poet contemplates the intersection of heritage and nature.
Poem by Beth Totten. Photo by Jake Totten.
Our roots delve
Into the dark loamy earth
Entwining ancestral memories.
Our heritage built
Upon porous, slippery granite
Strengthening fragile muscles.
Our journey bolstered
With brown, rusted leaves
Cushioning bludgeoned spirits.
Our foundation settled
On sweet, spongy moss
Nourishing unspoken dreams.
